Sentence Transformations

When you are taking your IELTS writing exam, one of the key skills they are looking for is the variety of sentences you used.

Today we are taking a quick look at sentence transformations taking verb+ adverb and making it into adjective + noun.

When doing this remember to use a preposition after the noun and you need to use ‘to be’ in the correct tense after there.

Remember the passive is formed with ‘to be’ in the correct tense + past participle.

Below are two sentences with the same meaning but written in different ways.

Example:
A) There were dramatic fluctuations in the number of people who took holidays from 2001 to 2005.
B) The number of people who took holidays fluctuated dramatically from 2001 to 2005.

You can see the change
dramatic fluctuations > fluctuated dramatically
Both sentences are good and correct, but you need to mix your sentences up, and not always use verb + adverb, or just adjective + noun.
Now it’s your turn. Complete thegaps in the sentences below so that the second sentence is expressed in a different way.
Answers as always are at the bottom.
