IELTS: Academic or General?

There are two different types of IELTS exam, Academic and General. Which one is best for you?

Consider the following:

Are you planning on migrating to an English speaking country?

Yes, then you can probably choose either Academic or General. You do need to think about your employment plans after you migrate though. If you want to get a professional job, you will need the Academic test.

The General test is easier though, and starting a new life in a new country is hard enough, so a lot of people choose it, and then deal with the Academic test later.

Are you going to study in another country?

Then you need to take the Academic test. The score you need is decided by where you are going.

Often it is 6.5 for university entrance, but every university is a little different. Of course a Masters is going to be higher, and high school is going to be lower.
